Czechs invited to join Mastercard and foodora in helping to fund school meals for vulnerable children in Ukraine
August 8, 2023 | Prague, Czech RepublicMastercard and foodora have united to support the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in its mission to help Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing war. For every order made using the foodora app between 27 July and 6 September and paid for using a Mastercard, the global average of the cost of one school meal will be donated to the WFP.
“We are delighted to be partnering with foodora in support of WFP to enable Mastercard cardholders to help where it is truly needed. This joint initiative shows that even by taking small steps, we can make a big difference. Our shared goal is to ensure that children in Ukraine have one less thing to worry about, helping them to focus their attention on continuing and completing their education,” says Damian Zielinski, General Manager CZ&SK at Mastercard.
The campaign will support WFP in continuing to work in close coordination with the Government of Ukraine to provide daily hot meals in 58 schools across Kyiv Oblast, with plans to expand the programme to other regions affected by the conflict in the next school year. As part of the partnership with foodora, Mastercard Czech Republic, has committed to donating EUR 150,000 (about CZK 3.5m) to support the provision of regular school meals.
“By joining Mastercard in support of WFP, we have an opportunity to alleviate this difficult situation for the most vulnerable children in Ukraine. By supporting school meals programmes, we hope to help create a better future for children affected by the war. We hope that our initiative will help as many vulnerable children as possible, and as quickly as possible,” says Adam Kolesa, Head of foodora in the Czech Republic.
Anyone in the Czech Republic can join the campaign by placing an order through foodora between 27 July and 6 September using their Mastercard. From each transaction, Mastercard will donate the global average of the cost of a school meal, i.e., EUR 0.20 (CZK 4.75) to WFP, up to as much as CZK 3.5m.
