Digital Jersey signs agreement with Mastercard to accelerate the island’s digital transformation

April 19, 2023

Digital Jersey has signed a new agreement with Mastercard as part of the island’s focus on innovation and digital transformation. The two organisations will work together on a Jersey Digital Partnership Programme over the next three years. The partnership aims to use Mastercard’s expertise, products and services to benefit Jersey’s economy and will focus on:

  • Electronic payments: making payments more efficient for people and businesses in Jersey.
  • Cybersecurity and intelligence: working with Digital Jersey, regulators, the government and financial institutions on the island to enhance Jersey’s cyber resilience.
  • Financial education and skills: supporting the government to work with schools to increase awareness and interest in financial services, financial technology and careers in the sector.
  • Tourism: leveraging payments data to increase Jersey’s attraction as a tourist destination.

The agreement was signed at an event on 18th April by Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, and Solveig Honoré Hatton, Senior Vice President, Government Engagement, Mastercard, during a visit to Jersey by a team from Mastercard.

As well as being in Jersey to announce the signing of the new agreement, the team from Mastercard held meetings with representatives from the Government of Jersey, Jersey Finance and Visit Jersey as well as a number of local digital, telecommunications and financial services businesses.

Tony Moretta, CEO, Digital Jersey, said: “A major part of our strategy is to collaborate with leading global organisations with a view to supporting digital transformation in Jersey. I am therefore delighted to sign this agreement with Mastercard, a global technology company that has formidable experience in promoting the digital economy not only through payments but a wide variety of other technologies. It’s an agreement that underlines Jersey’s reputation in the fintech space and in the application of innovative solutions to all aspects of island life.”

Solveig Honoré Hatton, Senior Vice President, Government Engagement at Mastercard Europe, added:

“Jersey’s financial services and digital sectors are thriving and the island has a clear and ambitious vision to put partnerships  at the heart of its digital future. We’re pleased to be partnering with Digital Jersey to deliver with our network and technologies this multi year and multi sector programme and play a part in supporting this vision, based on our long track-record of delivering digitally-driven, inclusive growth initiatives around the world.”
