Mastercard & Nickel renew their partnership to expand Nickel’s activities in France and Europe

October 26, 2020 | Paris

Mastercard has supported Nickel since its launch in the French market and is now Nickel’s exclusive partner in Europe with the goal of accelerating the neo-bank’s growth in France and extending its presence to 8 European countries by 2024 starting with Spain in September 2020.

Since its inception in 2014, Nickel, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas, has experienced non-stop growth with over 1.7 million accounts opened in France at more than 5,700 newsagents. Today, Nickel’s ambition is to reach a potential of 4 million customers through 10,000 points of sale in France by 2024.

To support its growth in France and Europe, Nickel can count on Mastercard’s global network as well as its consulting and marketing expertise. As a partner of choice for fintechs across Europe, Mastercard will be able to provide unique support to help Nickel fulfil its ambitions of scale and speed.

In addition to international development, the partnership between Nickel and Mastercard will provide solid support for rolling out tech innovations that will benefit Nickel’s customers in France and Europe. Mobile payment and value-added services for cardholders are the focal point of the work being carried out by the two players.

Solveig Honoré Hatton, Country Manager Mastercard France comments “Mastercard has supported Nickel since its launch in the French market in 2014 and we are proud to become Nickel’s exclusive partner in Europe with the goal of accelerating its growth in France and extending its presence to 8 European countries by 2024.”

Eimear Creaven, Division President Western Europe for Mastercard adds “The signature of a Mastercard’s 7-year partnership with Nickel, whose innovative approach combined with Mastercard’s unique solutions guarantees customers simpler, faster and more secure transactions, is an example of our commitment to encouraging innovation in payment technology. Mastercard has accompanied multiple young companies through their innovation projects, taking risks to support them from the very beginning, accompanying their development thanks to our Advisors arm, providing services bricks necessary to their developments, all the way to their international expansion. We are proud to be a partner to Nickel’s European expansion strategy.”

“The key to our success lies in international deployment, so we’re delighted to be able to count on Mastercard’s expertise and solid support to accelerate this development and continue to fast track our growth in France,” concludes Marie Degrand-Guillaud, Deputy head of Nickel.
