As Chief Economist, Latin America, Gustavo’s responsibilities include development and delivery of differentiated economic, financial, policy and macroeconomic thought leadership for customers, Mastercard and public policy.

Gustavo joins Mastercard with nearly twenty years’ experience in economic research, forecasting and analysis. Gustavo most recently served as the Head of LATAM Economics and Chief Brazil Economist at BNP Paribas. In this capacity, he frequently shared insights and perspective on the economic landscape and trends in Latin America with investors, stakeholders, and specialized media. Under his leadership, the Central Bank of Brazil recognized BNP Paribas as a top forecaster.

Gustavo holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from the São Paulo School of Economics at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of São Paulo.
