Today, we’re more connected than ever

The Internet of Things (IoT) ecosphere has grown, and with these new interactions comes new payment possibilities.

Mastercard and Vodafone have a long history of making connections and payments seamless, safe and secure. Together with our new partnership and Energy Web we are unlocking the power of a sustainable and connected community.

The Digital Asset Broker is Vodafone’s new, global platform to help its customers benefit from the new ‘Economy of Things’. As the next generation of Internet of Things platform, it delivers on the promise of securely authenticating enabled and authorized devices and allowing them to transact with one another, powered by blockchain.

Connecting customers to seamless, secure and sustainable payments

Vodafone’s Digital Asset Broker platform is being demonstrated in a leading EV Charging Trial through our partnership, and with Energy Web. Designed to work with a growing ecosystem of connected vehicles, DAB powers a service with a single application and integrated wallet, i.e. a one-stop shop for in-car payments, reducing the number of apps for various charging points and companies, and facilitating route and cost optimization. Motorists can receive real-time information on the status and compatibility of the nearest available charging point and can authorize their vehicle to recharge effortlessly.

Now paying at electric charging points is as easy as pulling up, opening the app, and choosing to connect. Once they’ve completed their charge, drivers can disconnect and drive away with a digital receipt for their charge. Vodafone believes the platform will eliminate ‘range anxiety’ — the fear of running out of battery life — and enable customers to consciously choose renewable electricity providers.

Creating a connected world

Additionally, the partnership with Energy Web means use of renewable energy can be traced and assured through electronic provenance, thanks to the interoperability between EW’s system and DAB to enable transactions and payments between devices globally. Getting started is simple, as there’s no need to build their own complex system. Connected devices are verified as trustworthy and assigned a unique digital identity, secured by the mobile SIM. They can then transact over encrypted connections, safely using wallets and other payment technology, leveraging the latest blockchain technology.

Around the globe and across industries — automotive, energy, logistics, and more — we’re imagining a more connected and sustainable world.
