Mastercard supports the French Red Cross (Croix-Rouge française) to accelerate vaccination against COVID-19 for vulnerable people

July 12, 2021 | By Donatienne Douriez
Paris, July 12, 2021 - By the end of 2021, the French Red Cross wishes to raise awareness among 100,000 people and contribute to the vaccination of 25,000 of them. This large-scale operation will be carried out thanks to the cooperation of government services, Regional Health Authorities (Agences Régionales de Santé, ARS), local authorities and through grant support from Mastercard.

With support from the Mastercard Impact Fund, the French Red Cross will be able to deploy mobile vaccination systems as close as possible to the places where the most vulnerable people and those furthest from health care live, but also to facilitate their access to existing vaccination centers. Beyond this initiative, it will also be a question of educating about vaccination process, vaccines and protection measures (wearing a mask, hygiene, social distancing, …)

Support, transparency, exchange, pedagogy, and education will be the keywords of this awareness campaign, which will strengthen the confidence in vaccines and in their effectiveness among the most vulnerable people. This should be facilitated by the trust, already well established, between the French Red Cross and this public, thanks to the great mobilization of its volunteers.

Mastercard’s focus has always been to help build a more connected and inclusive world. To support an equitable recovery, Mastercard has stepped up throughout the global health crisis with a nearly $100 million response that leverages global philanthropy through the Mastercard Impact Fund; digital technology, resources, and innovative partnerships; as well as fundraising programs. With this new commitment, Mastercard gives the French Red Cross the means to act faster in support of the most vulnerable in facing COVID-19.

Our response to the COVID-19 health crisis reflects who we are as a business. Using the strength of our resources and partnerships, we see pathways to an inclusive economy and a more equitable society, where everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential, » says Brice van de  Walle, General manager Mastercard France. This new commitment to the French Red Cross only reinforces our desire to support the most disadvantaged in facing the current unprecedented conditions.”

The French Red Cross teams have been fully committed to the race against COVID-19 for many months, and thanks to the exceptional support of Mastercard, will be able to deploy new tailor-made measures. Starting this summer, they will be reaching out to the most vulnerable people across France to convince them of the importance of getting vaccinated and to provide them with easy access to vaccination.” says Jean-Christophe Combe, General Manager, French Red Cross.
