Mastercard uses state-of-the-art technology to protect your payment every step of the way, by only transmitting encrypted data to the payment terminal. Your card number is replaced by a dynamically generated, alternative number – a so-called token. This is only stored on your mobile device. Since each token is created for a specific mobile device, this information cannot be used on any other device. Can your card data be used for fraudulent purposes? Absolutely not.
There are even more advantages to tokens. For instance, if your smartphone or smartwatch is lost, it's easy to deactivate the digitized card stored in the device - your device-specific token. So a thief doesn't stand a chance! What's more, your actual Mastercard doesn't have to be frozen, but remains ready for use.
