AI-driven transactions are redefining how Indians shop, pay, and manage their digital lives. As everyday activities—from product discovery to subscription renewal —shift to AI-powered assistance, India is rapidly emerging as a leader in agentic commerce adoption.
Building on this momentum, today Mastercard completed a fully authenticated agentic commerce transaction on its payment network at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, further expanding its global agentic commerce payment capabilities in Asia Pacific. Aligned with Mastercard’s Agent Pay Framework, the transactions were fully tokenized and authenticated using robust security features already familiar to Indians, reinforcing Mastercard’s commitment to secure and trusted AI-powered commerce.
Building the foundation for India’s agentic commerce ecosystem
Agentic commerce on Mastercard cards enables interoperability among issuers, acquirers, merchants, and payment aggregators, resulting in consistent and secure transactions regardless of the platform or partner. Mastercard cards issued by Axis Bank and RBL Bank were used to complete a purchase via payment aggregators such as Cashfree Payments, Juspay, PayU and Razorpay and merchants such as Swiggy as well as Instamart, Vodafone Idea (Vi), Tira and Zepto. These transactions mark a significant leap in bringing governed agentic commerce to Indian consumers.
“India is entering a defining phase in its AI journey—one where intelligent, in‑flow commerce becomes the norm. AI has long solved discovery well, but payments pulled users out of the experience, creating friction and drop‑offs. By completing a fully authenticated agentic commerce transaction on our network within a Large Language Model, we have shown what the future looks like: seamless, secure, end‑to‑end commerce powered by trusted AI,” said Gautam Aggarwal, President, India & South Asia, Mastercard
