Mastercard today announced the appointment of Ambassador Ailish Campbell as executive vice president, Public Sector, effective September 1. Based in Brussels, Campbell will lead Mastercard's global public sector strategy, driving partnerships and ensuring alignment across markets and business units to foster local relevance and competitive advantage.
Campbell brings a distinguished track record in international trade and diplomacy to Mastercard. She most recently served as Ambassador of Canada to the European Union from 2020 to 2025, where she led the expansion of trade, digital and defense and security cooperation. Prior to that, she held the significant role of Canada’s chief trade commissioner and assistant deputy minister of Global Affairs Canada, where she oversaw strategy across 160 international offices and led a team of over 1,400 professionals, focusing on the expansion of digital services and small business engagement.

In her new role, Campbell will also oversee the funding, hiring and retention of globally focused Public Sector resources, reinforcing Mastercard's commitment to building a robust and expert team dedicated to serving the unique needs of government and public organizations. This appointment underscores Mastercard's ongoing investment in its public sector capabilities, recognizing the critical importance of collaboration with governments to lay the foundation for future growth and innovation in the global economy.
Her extensive career in public service includes senior executive roles in economic, finance and international policy within the Canadian federal government, including at the Privy Council Office and Industry Canada. As an assistant deputy minister at Finance Canada, she advised on federal budget matters across key sectors such as energy, technology and defense. Campbell has also been a lecturer at the University of Oxford and is a member of the Aspen Institute Finance Leaders Fellowship.
