Mastercard BIN Data

Bank Identification Numbers (BINs) comprise the first 6 to 11 digits of a payment card number. These digits identify the issuing bank or financial institution, along with a range of other attributes. BIN data is essential for verifying card validity, preventing fraudulent activity, and optimizing payment routing.

Accurate, verified BIN data helps ensure reliable payment processing. Mastercard discourages retailers and processors from using unauthorized BIN data solutions because they may be incomplete or outdated, which can negatively affect business operations.

Mastercard offers access to BIN and account range data through its BIN Lookup API, a scalable, near real-time REST API for retrieving accurate Mastercard BIN account range information. The API supports single lookups, filtered searches, full data downloads, and delta updates.

For organisations that prefer a file-based approach, Mastercard also provides the Simplified BIN Account Range Table (SBART) file as a basic offering to approved customers. The SBART file contains a limited subset of BIN and account range data fields designed to support select use cases, while the BIN Lookup API delivers a more comprehensive and dynamic view of BIN data.

The SBART file only contains the following fields:

• ACCOUNT RANGE FROM 
• ACCOUNT RANGE TO 
• ACCEPTANCE BRAND 
• ICA
• ISSUER NAME 
• Country
• BRAND PRODUCT CODE 
• BRAND PRODUCT NAME 
• MASTERCARD ONE PARTICIPATION INDICATOR
