In contrast to normal bank cards, Debit Mastercard uses the same systems as credit cards and so offers additional services. This means that Debit Mastercard can be used to shop online and is accepted at a greater number of locations when abroad. You can use Debit Mastercard for contactless payments in stores worldwide. Debit Mastercard can also be used to make payments on the go using your smartphone or smartwatch.

Whether Debit Mastercard or Maestro, these debit card products are charged directly to your bank account. In other words, the transactions using these cards are deducted directly from your account. However, the Debit Mastercard offers several additional functions compared to a Maestro card: Not only can the card be used at home or abroad, but it can also be used for online payments as it has a 16-digit card number and a three-digit verification number (CVC), just like a credit card. The difference to a credit card is that charges using a debit card are immediately deducted from your bank account, while all credit card charges are collated and deducted from your account monthly in one go.

Nowadays, on-the-go payments can be made using most smartphones and smartwatches. So you have maximum flexibility when choosing your means of payment in this regard as well – regardless of whether you use a debit card, credit card or prepaid card!
