Today, Mastercard introduced the Dreamonomics Report,1 a new global view of the forces reshaping small business perceptions and approach to growth. According to the research, Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) remain focused on growth, with 77% naming steady revenue growth as a top goal but with a new emphasis on stability and resilience as they navigate a dynamic market.
Notably, 72% prioritize stability and predictability over fast growth 63% prefer building deep customer relationships over maximizing reach and 61% avoid risks to make their business’s financial position more predictable.
Based on a global survey of 6,000+ small and medium-sized enterprises across 18 countries, this new report from Mastercard reveals how business owners are navigating growth in a digital-first world.

According to the Dreamonomics Report, almost two thirds (63%) of small business owners in Canada say cyber protection is a high priority. Yet, 34% still feel unsure or unprepared to protect their business from cyber threats.
At the same time, small business owners are looking for ways to manage growing responsibilities more efficiently as 69% want digital business tools that seamlessly integrate with one another.
