Advancing gender equality: the crucial role of science and technology

There is a notable increase in the development of education policies that prioritize gender equality, spanning both during and post-education periods over the last several decades. But their effectiveness causes an ongoing debate.
Results from the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) confirm the persistence of gender disparities.
Girls, for example, still outperform boys in reading while boys lead in mathematics on average across the OECD. Yet, later in the job market, women often earn lower salaries than men across OECD countries.
As women’s underrepresentation in STEM fields remains a subject of concern and lost opportunity for economies and women, all these examples require deeper inspection and hearing what the experts have to say about what should be done.
