Mastercard Teams Up with London City Lionesses to Champion the Next Era of Women’s Football
London City Lionesses and Mastercard are delighted to announce a new partnership designed to accelerate the growth of women’s football. Together, they will create unforgettable experiences and bring fans closer to the game than ever before.
As an official partner of London City Lionesses, Mastercard will offer cardholders and supporters a range of Priceless Experiences that elevate the matchday experience, from player meet-and-greets to opportunities for young fans to walk onto the pitch as player mascots.
The partnership will officially kick off at the London City Lionesses vs Brighton and Hove Albion Women’s Super League (WSL) match at the CopperJax Community Stadium in Bromley on Sunday 7th December. Supporters attending can look forward to a number of on-the-day experiences to celebrate the launch.
The announcement comes during a landmark year for the club, which became the first-ever independent team to compete in the WSL. The last 12 months have also seen the club promoted to the top flight, assemble an exciting squad, and claim wins in four out of their last five league fixtures.
Mastercard will also become the naming partner of London City Lionesses’ Sister Clubs programme, the club’s community initiative that connects the professional women’s team with local clubs. The programme will include a series of coaching clinics, London City training experiences, and wider team engagement designed to inspire and develop the next generation of players.
The partnership will also see the hosting of the Mastercard Sister Club Festival, an annual celebratory football festival which brings together local teams at the club’s Cobdown Park training ground in Kent.
“Mastercard has been championing women’s sport for 25 years, and we’ve witnessed first-hand its meteoric rise. We’re thrilled to stand alongside London City Lionesses and their mission to reimagine what’s possible for women’s football. This is more than a sponsorship; it’s a shared commitment to creating Priceless Experiences for fans, athletes and communities whilst paving the way for the next generation.” says Charlie Carrington, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, UK and Ireland, at Mastercard.
“Partnering with Mastercard reflects our ambition to drive progress in women’s football,” said Michele Kang, Owner, London City Lionesses. “Mastercard's dedication to sport over a long period of time, including their sponsorship of OL Lyonnes, matches our vision to build a global community. Most importantly, this partnership allows us to uplift female athletes, grow the fanbase, and shape the future of women’s football.”
By partnering with London City Lionesses, Mastercard builds on its long-standing global commitment to women’s sport, including its sponsorship of Olympique Lyonnais, AIG Women’s Open and Billie Jean King Cup - The Women's World Cup of Tennis.
