Revitalization in
New York City

In the hardest–hit business corridors, Hurricane Sandy damaged or destroyed approximately 23,000 businesses through flooding, high winds, and fires across New York City. Prolonged closure of businesses threatens the economic health and vitality of neighborhoods and commercial corridors. Headquartered 20 miles north of New York City in Purchase, New York, MasterCard is acutely aware of Sandy's impact on the local community, its businesses and its residents.

MasterCard is working with the NYC Department of Small Business Services in partnership with The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City to help revitalize commercial corridors by attracting visitors and new businesses to neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Staten Island, and launching new merchant associations in the Rockaways and the South Street Seaport. Through local community development corporations, MasterCard's support is helping bring small businesses back to the community and breathe new life into New York City's most impacted areas.
