    To apply for a MasterCard PayPass, contact any of the growing number of participating financial institutions (card issuers) listed on our Web site. Check back often, as new card issuers are added regularly. See Our List of Cards.

    To make a purchase, simply tap your PayPass card, key fob, or mobile phone on the “contactless” payment reader at the checkout of participating retail locations. A “contactless” reader is identifiable by this symbol: .

  • How close does the “tap” have to be to the checkout reader? [Back to top]

    Typically at the checkout when you tap, your card/device must be within an inch or two of the “contactless symbol” ( ) on the payment reader on the counter. Do note that if you have more than one PayPass card in your wallet, you should remove the specific card you wish to use to pay.

    • Tap the MasterCard PayPass locator icon on your desktop to find merchants that accept MasterCard PayPass around the world.

    • By tapping “Near You”, the app displays PayPass locations near you.

    • By tapping “Near a Location”, you can begin your search for PayPass locations by entering: (1) an address, (2) city & state/province, (3) zip/postal code, or (4) airport code. Press “Find PayPass locations” at the bottom of the page to complete your search.

    • While viewing the map, you may move its position and the PayPass locations will be updated based on your new map positioning.

    • Please ensure that your Android smart phone is operating with a working GPS, mobile network, or wi-fi connection.

  • What do the icons do or mean?

      - PayPass location peg with merchant type icon. While viewing the pegs on the map, tap them to get more detail.

      - Re-centers your map back to your starting position.

      - Filters your search results by the merchant type of your choice.

      - Switches your view from map to list.

      The orange icon in the center of the peg is the merchant type. You can view a list of the merchant type icons by tapping the Filter ( ) button in the top toolbar of the map view.

    • Within the peg cloud. [Back to top]

      - Allows you to share a PayPass location via SMS text. Standard text message rates apply.

      - Allows you to report a problem you had while using your PayPass card or device at a merchant.

      - Launches Google Maps or GPS navigational program (if available) on your phone for this location.

    The merchant name, its distance from your starting point, the address of each location, and its merchant type icon (i.e. convenience store, pharmacy, fast food, etc).

  • Can I search for a particular PayPass location by Name? [Back to top]

    Yes. Before you press “Near You” or “Find PayPass locations”, scroll to the bottom of that screen. Open the “Advanced Options” and enter the name in the “Merchant Name” text box. A list of options based on your entry will appear provided that you have a working mobile or wi-fi connection.
