Paying your taxes with your MasterCard Card is so easy. Just choose your preferred method and follow the simple steps below.
How to PayClose X
Use your MasterCard card to pay 2008 federal income taxes by one of the following methods:
- Method 1 – Prepare a paper return, and then make your payment by phone using one of the two numbers listed below, or online at the service provider Web sites.
- Method 2 – Prepare your return electronically using one of the many tax preparation software packages available. Make your payment by phone using one of the two numbers listed below, or online at the service provider Web sites.
- Method 3 – Have an authorized tax preparer electronically prepare and file your income tax return through the IRS e-file system and then make payment by phone using one of the two numbers listed below, or online at the service provider Web sites.
What to PayClose X
The IRS card acceptance program for tax payments begins January 1, 2009.
- Taxpayers may make payment on any balance due amount for federal forms 1040, 4868, and 1040-ES.
- Individual taxpayers that have installment agreements with the IRS for the current year and for tax years 2005, 2006, and 2007 will be able to make their installment payments with their MasterCard cards via Official Payments Corp or PAY1040.com.
- Beginning January 1, 2009, individual taxpayers who receive delinquent balance-due return payment notices from the IRS for taxes owed for tax year 2007 will have the option of paying their tax obligations with their MasterCard cards via Official Payments Corp or PAY1040.com.
- Beginning in January 2009, businesses can make a credit or debit card payment for the balance due on the following employment taxes: Form 943 and Form 945 series for current year, prior year and installment agreements; Form 944 series for prior year; and amended or adjusted return payments for Forms 940, 941, 943, 944 and 945 series.

Convenience Fees
Cardholders will be charged a convenience fee, which will vary based upon the taxes due and payment provider selected. Your monthly card statement will contain two separate entries related to the federal income tax payment. The first entry indicates the amount of tax paid and identifies the merchant as "US Treasury Tax Payment." A second entry shows the amount of the convenience fee and is identified as "Tax Payment Convenience Fee".
