Subway Fares Overview

Changes to the MTA Automatic Payment Plan

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has approved a system-wide fare change that will impact all Pre-Pay subscribers enrolled in the NYC Transit Subway Trial. On March 2, 2008, the MTA bonus for value-based fares will change from 20 percent to 15 percent for all value-based purchases of $7.00 and above.

Effective March 2, 2008, the reload amount for Pre-Pay will change to $20.87, which will still give you 12 trips for the price of 10. Your March 2008 Citi account statement will reflect reload change to $20.87. Instead of a $1.67 trip charge, you will see $1.74 in your ride history on the subway trial website. Pay-As-You-Go customers will not be affected by the fare change.

As a trial participant, you can continue to speed through the lines at specially equipped turnstiles on the 4,5,6 line from 138th Street through Borough Hall.

Pay-As-You-Go

If you are enrolled for Pay-As-You-Go program, your fare purchase will remain at $2 per ride.
