Soon everyone will want to pay this way, but as a select participant in the NYC Mobile Trial, you will be among the first to enjoy this new technology.

Tap N Go™ with MasterCard PayPass®*

It works just like your traditional MasterCard card - but it’s contactless. No more swiping or giving your card to cashiers. No fishing for coins or waiting for change. PayPass makes the transaction process simpler and quicker for all - at fast food restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, and the NYC Subway until April 30, 2007.

On Your Statement

When you use your new trial mobile phone to make purchases, all charges will appear on your Citi credit card monthly statement, just as if you had used your traditional card.

Built-in technology

Contactless payment phones all feature an embedded computer chip and radio frequency antennae. After you tap your PayPass-enabled phone on the reader at checkout, the phone securely transmits payment details wirelessly using Near Field Communication. Account details are communicated directly to the special reader and are then processed through the highly trusted MasterCard acceptance network in the normal manner. Moments after you tap the reader with your phone, you will receive payment confirmation and are on your way.

  • Near Field Communication (NFC) is the technology that allows your mobile phone to securely transmit and receive information over a short range, maximum range of a few inches.
  • Over the Air Personalization (OTA) is the process of initializing your mobile phone with the information it needs to conduct secure transactions such as making purchases at retail locations that accept PayPass.

Safe and secure - just like your traditional card

Your phone never leaves your hand. And you get the same level of security that you've been accustomed to with the MasterCard Zero Liability† coverage on unauthorized purchases. The chip within your MasterCard PayPass® phone has the same information as that on the magnetic stripe of your credit or debit card. Current MasterCard and Issuer privacy and confidentiality rules apply as per your current cardholder agreement.

Fees, Charges & Incentives

  • There are no additional carrier transport charges when you make purchases with your trial mobile phone.
  • When your phone is first set up with PayPass, personalize using OTA, , you will be charged for the number of kilobytes used to complete the personalization process. See your data plan for additional details.
