    We at MasterCard International Incorporated ("we" or "us" or "MasterCard") respect your privacy. This Privacy Notice describes the types of information we collect on www.mastercard.com/us/merchant (the "Site") how we may use that information, and with whom we may share it. This Privacy Notice does not include information collection and use practices on other MasterCard Web sites. Please see the respective privacy notices for descriptions of those practices.

    Information We Collect

    Active Collection of Information

    Generally, we collect information on this Site to provide you the information, product or services you request. This information will consist of your name and contact details, as well as information about your business. We do not collect credit card numbers on this Site. Given that this Site is intended for residents of the United States, we generally collect all of our information on servers located in the United States.

    Additionally, for you to obtain some of this content and functionality, such as the referral program and MasterCard® Secure Code™, we may ask you to register on the Site and create a password.

    You may choose to contact us through our Site. If you e-mail us comments or questions, we will have your e-mail address, as well as any other information you choose to provide.

    You may use a Tell a Friend functionality on this Site to send a colleague information from MasterCard and its marketing partners. In order to fulfill this request, we will ask you for your and your colleague's names and e-mail addresses. We do not retain this data after the e-mail is sent.

    Passive Collection of Information

    When you visit our Site, your browser automatically may send us certain non-personal information, such as a referring Web site, IP address, operating system in use, information about your computer, browser and browser version.

    Moreover, this Site may include electronic image requests (called a "single-pixel gif", "clear-gifs" or "Web beacon" request). These Web beacons do not collect any personal information. These are just the technique by which we compile anonymous information about your browsing activity on the Site. In connection with Web beacons we also may use cookies.

    By our collecting this information, we learn how to best tailor our Site to our visitors. While generally we examine such information only in the aggregate, such aggregated information could be linked back to an individual IP addresses or machine access codes (MACs).     How We Share Personal Information

    We do not share personal information about you gathered through your interaction with the Site, except as described here.

    We may share information you provided with service providers we have retained to perform services on our behalf, including Web hosting service providers, e-mail service providers, and advertising agencies.     If you sign up for a referral program, we will provide data you provided to us to third parties as appropriate within the context of that program. For example within the acquirer referral program, we provide merchant details to acquirers so that acquirers may contact merchants.

    In certain instances, the functionality available through this Site is to publish your information, such as MasterCard® Secure Code™. In such instances, we will post your data publicly.

    In addition, we may disclose information about you to others (i) if we are required to do so by law, (ii) in response to legal process, (iii) to law enforcement authorities or other government officials, or (iv) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent harm or loss or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual fraud or illegal activity.

    We reserve the right to transfer any information we have about you in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets. Should such a sale or transfer occur, we will use reasonable efforts to try to ensure that the transferee uses personal information you have provided through this Site in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Notice.

    Children’s Privacy

    This Site is intended for an adult audience and is not meant for children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. We want to let you know that it is MasterCard policy not to collect personal information of any person under 13. If we knowingly obtain personally identifiable information in error on a child under the age of 13, we will delete that information from our systems.

    Security

    MasterCard is committed to using industry practices to maintain the security of personal information collected on our Site. To try to prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of personal information, we have put in place technical, physical and administrative methods designed to safeguard the personal information we collect online. We store personal information on a secured server behind a firewall that is not directly connected to the Internet.

    Please remember that no data transmission over the Internet, or by other means, can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Thus, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure the security of any information you transmit to us. Therefore, you acknowledge and agree that you transmit your personal information over the Internet and through this Site at your own risk.

    If you registered to access a portion of this Site, you should maintain the confidentiality of your password. We use secure socket layer (SSL) or secure HTTP (HTTPS) technology to protect your user name and password when you enter that information on the Site.     Your Choices

    You can "opt-out" of receiving promotional e-mail from us by following the opt-out instructions in our e-mails. To ensure that your opt-out request is honored, you must use the method designated in the e-mails to notify us of your opt-out request, since we cannot guarantee that other methods of notification will be effective or timely.

    Please be aware that we are able to effectuate an opt-out only for a specific e-mail address. So, if you have more than one e-mail address or if you have changed your e-mail address, your opt-out request may not be effectuated properly.     If you wish to have your information removed from the SecureCode Web site listing, please let us know by sending an e-mail to securecodemerchant@mastercard.com with the name under which your organization is listed.

    If you provided us with your contact details in order to be provided information by potential acquiring banks and no longer wish for us to share your contact information with those banks, please contact us as specified in the "How To Contact Us" section below.

    Please note that even if you chose to opt-out of our marketing communications, we will continue to send you service related communications.
