MasterCard Intra-EEA Fallback POS Interchange Fees

MasterCard Intra-EEA fallback POS interchange fees are set out below.

On 12 June 2008 MasterCard announced that, effective 21 June 2008, it would temporarily repeal its MasterCard and Maestro Intra-EEA cross-border consumer card interchange fees in conformity with the European Commission’s 19 December 2007 Decision. These temporary consumer card interchange fees(1) are applicable as of 21 June 2008 to cross-border Point-of-Sale transactions within the MasterCard Europe EEA sub-region as defined below.

MasterCard has appealed on 1 March 2008 the Commission’s Decision before the Court of First Instance in Luxemburg. Meanwhile, MasterCard continues its dialogue with the Commission services about an interchange fee methodology that the Commission services believe is consistent with the EC Decision.

MasterCard reserves the right to change the below rates at any time. Any changes will be published promptly on this website.

The MasterCard Europe EEA sub-region includes the 27 Member States of the European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Andorra, Falkland Islands, Faroe Islands, French Guiana, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Monaco, Reunion, San Marino, and Holy See (Vatican).

(1) Interchange fees apply only to the purchase part of the transaction.
