Ian Baker-Finch Returns as MasterCard Masters Ambassador
In its sixth year of tournament sponsorship, MasterCard is delighted to confirm that the 1988 Australian Masters champion will be back at the prestigious course when the tournament begins on 22 November 2007.
In addition to his success at Huntingdale, Ian won 15 tournaments across New Zealand, Japan, United States and Europe, including winning the British Open in 1991. Ian has also been announced as Assistant Captain to Gary Player at the Presidents Cup
“It’s a privilege to be back again at a tournament and course where I had such great success during my career,” said Ian Baker-Finch.
“I’m looking forward to my role of ambassador in supporting the tournament and Australian golf, and thank MasterCard for inviting me back for the second consecutive year.”
Leigh Clapham, executive vice president, Australasia, MasterCard Worldwide says Ian’s involvement is a great asset to the tournament.
“We are pleased that Ian accepted our invitation again to act as ambassador, in what is shaping up as another great tournament at the Huntingdale course.”
MasterCard has also granted a wildcard in the 2007 MasterCard Masters to Jason Scrivener from Western Australia, who won the MasterCard Junior Masters at The Vines Resort and Country Club in Perth in May 2007. The rising star of Australian golf triumphed over a field of 96 top class junior golfers to win a golden opportunity to compete with their golfing heroes in the MasterCard Masters.
The MasterCard Junior Masters is supported by professional players whose donations fund flights and accommodation for the junior players.
“This is a great opportunity for me to test my game against some of the world’s best,” said Jason Scrivener.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge and thank MasterCard for the opportunity to further my career at the professional level,” Scrivener added.
MasterCard cardholders will also gain free entry into the prestigious Huntingdale course, simply by presenting their MasterCard card upon entry.
Displaying your MasterCard card also gains you free entry to the cardholders’ lounge at the course where you enjoy complimentary refreshments, including tea and coffee, water and cookies while enjoying air-conditioned indoor seating with TV coverage of the event.
This year’s MasterCard Masters continues to see golfing greats take to the prestigious Huntingdale Golf Course, with Aaron Baddeley, Michael Campbell, Robert Allenby and Richard Green among the contenders confirmed so far to do battle for the famed Gold Jacket and $1,500,000 worth of prize money.
