The Big Lunch |
|
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. Since 2009, MasterCard has seen The Big Lunch as the starting point for a return to community values and shared action. By supporting The Big Lunch, we're celebrating a simple act of community and will be continuing our partnership for the next two years, including being part of the Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch in 2012.
This year saw MasterCard set the goal of creating the world's longest picnic table, bringing hundreds of people together, to attempt to break a world record. Over 400 people made history and enjoyed the free lunch which was hosted by former Blur bassist Alex James and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson even popped in too. In addition to breaking the world record, the 90m long table has now been divided into smaller picnic tables and donated to London's parks, creating a lasting community legacy of 30 tables across the capital with the hope that this will encourage communities to get together more often.
