The Senior Open Championship is recognised as one of the five Senior ‘majors’. Its status amongst the Tour enables it to attract international stars such as Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Gary Player, Tony Jacklin and Ben Crenshaw. In 2007 Nick Faldo and Mark O’Meara made their debuts on the Seniors Tour.
In the Centenary year, 1978, the Club was proud to receive the Royal Accolade and, to date, is the most recent Club to be so honoured. The British Open Championship has been played at Royal Troon on eight occasions, the last being 2004.
