MasterCard Payment Gateway Services provides payment transaction services to merchants, financial institutions and payments processors including credit and debit card transaction services, fraud prevention services, electronic payment services, e-money solutions and alternative payment solutions.

MasterCard Payment Gateway Services may obtain information about you from various sources. For example, in our role as a provider of fraud prevention services, we may obtain personal information about you from merchants, financial institutions and other entities in connection with your payment transactions.

In addition, you may choose to submit information directly to us. You may do so, for example on our website, in connection with a service which we provide, or in connection with an actual or potential business relationship with us.

The types of personal information we may obtain are:

  • Contact information (such as name, postal or email address and phone or fax number)
  • Business contact information (such as job title, department and name of the organisation you are employed by or represent)
  • Merchant identification data (such as Merchant ID number for e-commerce payments and originator ID number for direct debit services)
  • Username and password
  • Payment card information (such as payment card number, amount of transaction)
  • PIN or access code (such as a SecurID® or SoftID® code)
  • Financial information (such as financial account information)
  • Transaction data (such as bank account number, amount of transaction)
  • Shopping basket level or SKU data (such as products purchased, airline/flight related information, e.g. departure and destination airports, passport or travel ID)
  • Date of birth (for age verification in the context of fraud prevention services)
  • Pattern insights (such as shopping behaviour and preferences)
  • Inquiries and other communications with merchants, financial institutions and payment processors

We, our service providers and partners collect certain information by using automated means, such as cookies and web beacons, when you interact with our advertisements, mobile applications, or visit our websites, pages or other digital assets including those embedded in payment processing services which we provide to our customers. We share information to facilitate transaction payments, fraud prevention and other related activities. We may share the personal information we collect with our affiliates, financial institutions that issue payment cards or process payment card or electronic transactions, fraud prevention service providers and merchants. For example, in this context we provide merchants and financial institutions with information about their customers’ or cardholders’ transactions that MasterCard Payment Gateway Services processes.

In addition, we may share the information with our service providers who perform services on our behalf. We do not authorise these service providers to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform certain services on our behalf, or comply with legal requirements. We require these service providers by contract to appropriately safeguard the privacy and security of personal information they process on our behalf.

On our websites, you may choose to use certain features for which we partner with other entities. These features, which may include social networking and geographic location tools, are operated by third parties that are not affiliated with MasterCard Payment Gateway Services. These third parties may use personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies. We strongly suggest you review the third parties’ privacy policies if you use the relevant features.

We also may disclose information about you (i) if we are required to do so by law or legal process, (ii) to law enforcement authorities or other government officials, or (iii) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss, or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual fraudulent or illegal activity. We also reserve the right to transfer personal information we have about you in the event that we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets. You may choose not to provide personal information to MasterCard Payment Gateway Services by refraining from conducting a payment transaction using a payment card. You also may refrain from submitting information directly to us.

If you are located in the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you may direct us not to share your personal information with third parties, except (i) with service providers we have retained to perform services on our behalf, (ii) in the event that we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets, (iii) if disclosure is required by law or legal process, (iv) with law enforcement authorities, regulatory authorities or other government officials or (v) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss, or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual fraud or other illegal activity.

Where required by law, MasterCard Payment Gateway Services obtains your prior opt-in consent at the time of collection for the processing of (i) personal information for marketing purposes and (ii) personal information deemed sensitive pursuant to applicable law.

You may withdraw any consent you have previously provided to us, or object at any time on legal and/or legitimate grounds, to the processing of your personal information. We will apply your preferences going forward.
