In college, that first taste of independence and financial freedom can be a bit overwhelming for students. Since many young adults are influenced by their peers, MasterCard created Are You Credit Wise?, a peer-to-peer program that teaches responsible spending and focuses on good financial habits. Students learn things like budgeting, bill payments and building a credit history. Over the past 12 years, the program reached more than 520,000 students at nearly 80 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and the Netherlands. The real success of the program is the peer-to-peer model where students designate a week of the semester to get financially savvy, attending presentations on money management and residence hall workshops. MasterCard is proud to have helped so many students across the world better understand the ins and outs of their financial health and been a part of shaping their financial future.
