Kevin J. Stanton
President
MasterCard Canada
As President of the Canada Region of MasterCard Worldwide, Kevin J. Stanton is responsible for the strategic planning and business performance of all aspects of the Canadian operations. He has been with MasterCard for 12 years.
Since taking on the President’s role in 2004, Mr. Stanton has transformed the Canadian organization by initiating its evolution from a credit company to a payments company. He has successfully enhanced customer relationships, deepened engagement with acquirers, including adding representatives to the Canadian advisory board, expanded relationships with merchants, anticipated and prepared for significant change in the marketplace, including the imminent shift to chip-based payment cards, and has driven growth. One year after his appointment MasterCard became, and continues to be, the fastest growing payments brand in Canada.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Stanton was Senior Vice President, Strategy and Market Development, Canada. In this role, he oversaw MasterCard’s efforts to provide advanced, secure and reliable payment solutions and enhance its position in the Canadian payments industry. He focused on developing and expanding new and existing markets in Canada for MasterCard’s portfolio of corporate and consumer products.
Prior to joining the Canada team, Mr. Stanton spent seven years as Vice President, Senior Counsel and North America Region Counsel at MasterCard. In this capacity, he provided legal and business counsel to MasterCard’s Canadian, U.S. and global business units on all aspects of the company’s business, including credit card, debit card, e-commerce, member relations, marketing, and trademark programs.
Prior to joining MasterCard, Mr. Stanton practiced law as an associate in the banking divisions of a number of leading Boston law firms.
He holds a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Mr. Stanton grew up in the Boston area and currently lives in Toronto with his wife and three children. He is a devoted supporter of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and sits on the boards of The Royal Conservatory of Music and Royal St. George’s College.
