How To Tap

Tap N Go™ with MasterCard PayPass®

Just one tap of a Citi MasterCard PayPass® enabled phone on the PayPass reader at participating locations and you're good to go. It works just like a traditional MasterCard card—but no more swiping or giving your card to cashiers. No fishing for coins or waiting for change. PayPass makes the transaction process simpler and quicker for all—at fast food restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores and convenience stores.

On Your Statement

When a PayPass enabled mobile phone is used to make purchases, all charges will appear on the cardholders regular monthly statement, just as if a regular MasterCard PayPass card was used.

Built-in technology

PayPass payment cards and enabled mobile phones all feature an embedded computer chip and radio frequency antennae. After you tap a MasterCard PayPass device on a reader at checkout, the card/tag/phone securely transmits payment details wirelessly. Account details are communicated directly to the special reader and are then processed through the highly trusted MasterCard acceptance network in the normal manner. Moments a PayPass enabled mobile phone is tapped at a reader, payment confirmation is received and the cardholder is on their way.

  • Near Field Communication (NFC) is the technology that allows a mobile phone to securely transmit and receive information over a short range, maximum range of a few inches.
  • Over the Air Personalization (OTA) is the process of initializing a mobile phone with the information it needs to conduct secure transactions such as making purchases at retail locations that accept PayPass.

As safe and secure as a traditional credit card

A PayPass enable mobile phone never leaves the users hand. And the same level of security that MasterCard cardholders have become accustomed to with the MasterCard Zero Liability coverage on unauthorized purchases still applies. The chip within a MasterCard PayPass® phone has the same information as that on the magnetic stripe of a credit card.

Accepted at over 24 million locations worldwide

MasterCard PayPass® is a simpler way to pay at a rapidly growing number of locations. While your MasterCard PayPass®-enabled mobile phone can be used to pay at thousands of merchant locations, MasterCard PayPass® cards can also be used in the traditional way at any one of the over 24 million MasterCard acceptance locations around the world.
