McDonald’s® Canada Introduces
MasterCard® PayPass Contactless Payment Technology
Point-of-sale payment terminals available at more than 1,400
restaurant locations nationally

TORONTO, July 7, 2011 – McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited and MasterCard Canada announced today the introduction of MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology at participating McDonald’s restaurant locations in Canada.

PayPass point-of-sale payment terminals have been installed at more than 1,400 McDonald’s restaurants across the country, giving patrons the option to simply Tap & Go to make their purchases.

“We believe in giving our customers a quick and convenient way to enjoy quality food and superior service,” said Jacques Mignault, Chief Operating Officer, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “MasterCard PayPass allows us to offer our valued customers greater convenience with a quicker and easier way to make purchases.”

Consumers with a PayPass-enabled MasterCard credit card or mobile phone can quickly and securely pay for their purchases with a simple tap of their card or phone on a PayPass point-of-sale payment terminal. The transaction is confirmed within seconds and the consumer never lets go of their card or phone.

“As the leader in innovative payments technology, MasterCard understands the need for enhanced customer convenience at the point-of-sale, including a faster way to pay, which is exactly what MasterCard’s PayPass technology provides,” said David E. Orzel, Head of Market Development, MasterCard Canada. “McDonald’s prides itself on efficiency and we expect that McDonald’s customers will appreciate how this technology will improve their overall experience.”
