MasterCard Canada Waives Interchange Fees on Donations to Haitian Aid Efforts
TORONTO, January 14, 2010 – MasterCard Canada announced today that it will waive interchange fees on Haitian relief donations that are made using Canadian issued MasterCard cards through the end of February to the following organizations: CanadaHelps; Canadian Red Cross; Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières; Oxfam/Humanitarian Coalition; Plan Canada; The Salvation Army; Save the Children Canada; UNICEF Canada; the United Way; and World Vision.
MasterCard Worldwide has announced a similar program for U.S. donations along with a $250,000 corporate donation to the American Red Cross.
“The outpouring of support from Canadians to the people of Haiti is fantastic and we want to help contributions go as far as possible,” said Jennifer Reed, Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, MasterCard Canada.
MasterCard is also double-matching employee contributions to the Haitian disaster relief fund of the Canadian Red Cross and American Red Cross.
