Started by lead singer Kele Okereke and lead guitarist Russel Lissack at the Reading Festival in 1999, the UK outfit finally settled on the name Bloc Party in 2003. Before that, they played under various names including Union, Superheroes of BMX, The Angel Range and Diet.

It wasn’t until Okereke managed to get the album’s into the hands of Franz Ferdinand’s lead singer as well as BBC1 Radio DJ Steve Lamacq after a gig that the band got their first big break on radio in 2003.

It wasn’t long before their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Silent Alarm’ in 2005 put them in the spotlight. Not only did it scoop the award of ‘Best Album of 2005' by Brtish music mag NME, it went Platinum that same year.

They followed up with their second album, ‘A Weekend In The City’. Not to be outdone by their early success, ‘A Weekend In The City’ reached number 2 on the UK Charts. Since releasing their third album in August ‘08, ‘Intimacy’, the band has been busy touring the world playing to sold-out stadium and festival gigs across Europe, UK and the US.
