Sydney, 12 February 2009 - The recent Victorian bushfire devastation has had a profound impact on residents and communities throughout the state and across the country.

In response, MasterCard has donated $100,000 to the Australian Red Cross, to help provide assistance and support to those who have lost their homes, businesses, families and friends.

“Our thoughts are with all those people who have been affected by these devastating bushfires. So many lives have been turned upside-down, and it is the responsibility of every Australian, corporation and community to pitch in and lend a hand to help wherever possible,” says Eddie Grobler, executive vice president, Australasia, MasterCard Worldwide.

“We are encouraging all our staff and partners to provide as much support as they can to those who have been affected by this tragedy. While there are no words that can console or repair the damage done, it is a true testament to the Australian spirit to see corporate Australia and the wider community rally together behind those who have lost so much,” he says.
